First novel is published for former News writer

David Warwick, who worked for what was then called The Evening News in the 1960s, has released a book called Chorus Endings.

The novel is set in the Meon Valley where David was brought up and 
follows the life of a man named Pete.

The book is set in a village just after the Second World War.

David, who now lives in Chichester, said: ‘I’m delighted to get Chorus Endings published. I can’t wait to hear what people have to say about it.

‘I’m looking forward to discussing the book with people, how it was written and the difficult moments I encountered.’

David is no novice at writing books, with Chorus Endings marking his 43rd published book. The others were all non-fiction titles.

He explained: ‘The book looks great. The publishers have done a great job with the cover, and the strapline “You live life forwards, understand it backwards” sums up the whole book perfectly.’

David, who runs a local writers’ club, said: ‘I’ve always written, it’s in my blood and it is a part of my life.’

Chorus Endings was published by Matador and David described it as ‘a light-hearted novel with deeper underlying themes.’

David said: ‘It seems that nowadays everyone is talking about themselves.

‘Chorus Endings is about storytelling in all its forms, through history, literature and religion and the way we make sense of the world around us.’

He added: ‘The book is about the stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves, and how much of this we reveal to others.’

David drew on some of his memories for the novel, including living on Hayling Island during the war.

He said: ‘We spent some time on the island during the war, barbed wire and regular patrols separating us from the sea.’

About his days as a reporter, he added: ‘Back in the 1960s I used to write Wickham district news at 1d a line.’

Chorus Endings costs £8.99 and is available at The Hayling Island Bookshop in Mengham Road.
