First set of lambs born at Butser farm

The set of twins were born in the early hours of Saturday, and both are healthy and tumbling about already.

The sheep are a rare Iron Age breed called Manx Loaghtan and are originally from the Isle of Man.

A spokeswoman said: ‘The sheep can have up to six horns on their heads and the word loaghtan is Manx for mousey brown – a reference to the natural colouring of their wool.

‘Most of the ewes in the flock are also pregnant so there are lots more lambs expected before the end of March.’

Butser Ancient Farm is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm, and from April the farm is open seven days a week.
