Over the next two days, the youngsters got stuck in to a series of group activities such as learning how to wield a bow during archery, working on a trapeze and undertaking a daring challenge course.

Jane Beveridge, the division commissioner for the beavers in Havant said: ‘Going on the trip and getting such comments from the girls and the parents showed me why we do it.

‘Some of the comments from the Brownies and parents included; “Thanks for giving my daughter a great experience, she had a wonderful time”, “My daughter has had an amazing time and has thoroughly enjoyed herself! She has learnt so much in the few days and it’s already done wonders for her self-esteem and confidence”.

‘We had such a good time and all the Brownies really enjoyed themselves.

‘It proved to be a really worthwhile trip.’

As well as this, the group also took on the zip wire and got to tear up some dirt while quad-biking.

They also sat around in a large group for a big campfire sing-song as they competed in who could sing the loudest and indulged in chocolate cake.

The group, tired from all their activities then returned back to Portsmouth via the hovercraft, which proved to be a particular highlight for the group, with many having never travelled on that form of transport before.

The Havant and Horndean brownies are part of the Girlguiding Hampshire East County group which has several units across twelve divisions.
