Havant tree wardens enjoy visit to party at royal palace

TREE wardens received royal approval when they were invited to join the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Former Emsworth resident, Frances Jannaway, and Peter Wallbank, from Waterlooville, were among the 8,000 guests who enjoyed a royal day out at the palace’s 40-acre garden.

They were invited by the Tree Council to recognise their contribution made to the national Tree Warden scheme, launched 25 years ago.

In 2012 Mrs Jannaway clinched £20,000 from the government to plant more trees throughout the Havant borough.

By 2015, almost 4,800 had been planted by tree wardens and other volunteers.

Mrs Jannaway said: ‘We couldn’t see the Queen but being there during her 90th birthday celebrations was special.’

Mr Wallbank added: ‘Looking over the serene lake it felt strange to see several very large cranes and towering modern glass office blocks so nearby.’
