PHRASES like ‘a bit OCD’ should be banned, according to an NHS body.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which treats children and young people in Hampshire, is asking people to stop using the phrase.

Bosses at the trust say it is ‘trivialising’ the issue of obsessive compulsive disorder, which is one of the most common mental health conditions affecting thousands of people across the area.

Dr Rick Fraser, chief medical officer at the trust, said: ‘As part of OCD Week of Action, Sussex Partnership is encouraging everyone to consider how they use the term ‘OCD’, such as not using phrases like being ‘a bit OCD’, which can trivialise what is a very real and distressing mental health condition for many people.’
