Two crews from Southsea fire station’s White Watch were called to the scene to take down the remainder of the metalwork, which was dangling dangerously above a footpath.

Firefighters used an aerial ladder platform to inspect the damaged scaffolding before attaching ropes to it and lowering to the ground.

The road is expected to remain closed until about 10pm while the debris is safely moved away.
