Hospices benefit from generous staff and shoppers at Covers

A BUILDERS' merchant has helped to raise almost £30,000 for hospices.

Following the success of last year’s campaign when Covers raised more than £27,000 for hospice charities in the south east, Covers’ second Help For Hospices week saw the company pledge £20,000 of its own money to kick start 2016’s activities.

It also donated £1 for each registered customer that made a purchase, which helped contribute a further £2,820 to the fundraising total.

During the week-long event, volunteers from St Wilfrid’s Hospice joined Covers’ staff at the Chichester depot to sell bacon rolls and held a builders’ bake off offering an array of delicious homemade cakes in exchange for donations.

Sales of raffle tickets helped to further bolster funds with the winners announced at a grand draw, which was called by the trustee and chairman of the fundraising and communications committee for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, Chris Walton.

The lucky winner of the top prize of a London hotel theatre break for two was confirmed as Wade Ayling from Brighton.

Rupert Green, chairman of Covers, said: Once again we have had an incredible response to our Help The Hospices week.

‘We would like to thank everyone who got involved, supported us and helped to raise money for some of the worthiest causes in our community.’

The funds will be split amongst 11 hospice charities located in the south east.
