Hounds given a helping paw by community firm

The Cowplain funeral home branch of the firm selected Hounds for Heroes, run by Allen Parton, from Clanfield, as its charity partner.

The partnership is part of Southern Co-operative’s Love Your Neighbourhood community programme.

Mr Parton said: ‘With more than 900,000 injured, disabled and traumatised services personnel our mission is daunting.

‘However, we have unquenchable resolve to make this happen.’

He added: ‘To have the support of our local Southern Co-operative Funeral Home is quite poignant and so important to all of us.

‘The message being sent out to 900,000 disabled and those serving on the front line, wherever in the world that may be, is that folk really do care.

‘When the guns fall silent on the battlefield, the battle with disability, trauma and bereavement for so many just begins.

‘We truly do salute The Southern Co-operative team for their support.’

Paula Slape, from Southern Co-operative, said: ‘In November 2016 our branch held an event in Waterlooville at which we raised £145 for Hounds for Heroes.

‘Allen came to see us with his dogs Endal Junior and Rookie and what showstoppers they were!

‘The crowd loved them and it was great to see the people get a better understanding of this fantastic charity.

‘We are now therefore delighted to be announcing our new partnership with Hounds for Heroes so that we can continue to fundraise for such a worthy cause.’

Hounds for Heroes has raised funds and awareness through activities such as mountain climbing on Britain’s three tallest peaks, bungee jumping, marathons, raffles and even an appearance at Crufts 2017.

Southern Co-operative Funeralcare is available for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
