How this Portsmouth hotel hopes to lead by example on tackling plastic waste

A HOTEL has marked its first anniversary by announcing that it will eliminate all unnecessary plastic packaging from its business.

Village Hotel in Lakeshore Drive, North Harbour, has become a flagship partner of The Final Straw Solent campaign, which is running in association with The News.

The firm will also be pledging staff time to beach cleans across the Solent.

General manager Mike Horner said: '˜Keeping plastic use to a minimum has been a goal of ours since the hotel's opening.

'˜To now be able to cement that commitment and help other businesses in the area address their plastic use and find ways to cut back makes us very proud and we hope will go some way to making the environment in Portsmouth better for everyone.'

Bianca Carr from The Final Straw Solent added: '˜We're delighted to have a major employer such as Village on board, to help set an example to local businesses and provide support and learning on how to cut back on plastic consumed.'
