Just two weeks to go until The News' We Can Do It awards

There are now just over two weeks to go until The News annual We Can Do It awards ceremony '“ and you can still be a part of it.

The eagerly-awaited event, sponsored by Colas, is being held at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth on Sunday, November 27.

Entry is free and tickets are now available from the New Theatre Royal box office on (023) 9264 9000.

Doors open at 1.30pm, with the awards starting at 2pm.

Below are the shortlists in each of the 10 categories.

The News can reveal that Steve Power, presenter of Wave 105’s breakfast show, will return to present this year’s awards.

He says: ‘I have been involved in these awards for several years and I’m once again looking forward to hosting this special event, which recognises those unsung heroes that form such a vital part of our local communities.’

Over the past 12 months people have been nominating modest individuals, charities, schools and businesses who make a difference to the 
lives of others and who are happy to go the extra mile to help out for no reward.

The ceremony will feature entertainment from The News Instant Star talent contest winner, teenage singer Paige Brooker, as well as performances from the Abstract Youth Dance Company.

Editor of The News Mark Waldron says: ‘Year after year, the selfless people recognised at the awards set the benchmark for community spirit.’

He adds: ‘We Can Do It is a reminder of how important it is to contribute to our communities.’
