Large fire takes hold at boatyard's chandlery

FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze at a boat warehouse for more than four hours.

The fire started in the chandlery at Deacons Marina and Boatyard, on the River Hamble at Bursledon, just before midnight on Sunday.

An investigation has been launched into the cause. No one was hurt, however an office was left severely damaged.

The ground floor was also damaged by smoke and water and the Force 4 Chandlery business was closed yesterday.

Forty firefighters from Fareham, Hightown, St Mary’s and Botley were sent out.

They used high pressure ventilation to cool the interior before going in and removing hazardous material from the boat chandlery.

The six crews battled the high temperatures for more than four hours and finally left by 7am.
