Major incident: Reaction to Shoreham Airshow plane crash on A27
Thousands have taken to social media to express their shock after a plane crashed on the A27 at the Shoreham Airshow this afternoon (August 22).
At 1.20pm a Hawker Hunter aircraft, which was part of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) Shoreham Airshow, crashed on the A27 just north of Shoreham Airport, hitting several cars.
The road is closed in both directions, and the airshow has been abandoned. Emergency services are at the scene.
Social media users have taken to Twitter to express their shock at today’s tragedy.
MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, Tim Loughton, said: “Tragic news that there have been fatalities at the Shoreham Air Show crash and our thoughts & prayers must be with the families and casualties.”
Beth Coles from Worthing said: “RIP to anyone who has reportedly been killed in the #Shorehamairshowcrash my thoughts go out to everyone involved. “I hope the pilot and anyone else injured makes a quick recovery. My thoughts are with you all.”
Abi King, said: “So sad to hear of the crash at Shoreham Airshow, must have missed it by minutes. Hoping for the best for all involved.”
S & C Travel tweeted: “Sat listening to the air ambulances flying in and emergency services sirens. Bad day at the #shorehamairshow. Sad times.”
Alex Pettitt said: “The air crash in #Shoreham today is absolutely devastating. Thoughts go out to all.”
Lisa Peters tweeted: “Totally shocked and saddened by news of plane crash at Shoreham not far from me, my thoughts are with those injured and their families.”
