MP backs Hambledon flood defences as scheme draws to an end

The last section of a big pipe underneath the village of Hambledon has been installed with final works to complete the remaining pipe work, trench reinstatements and headwall works near Lotts Stores to be completed by the end of the year.

Hambledon was hit by disastrous floods in 2014 prompting Hampshire County Council to bring forward a £3.89m scheme to solve the village’s woes.

The scheme itself involved improving the drainage in the village by widening and deepening the ditches and providing larger pipes beneath property accesses and new floodwater culverts under Lower West Street.

George Hollingbery, MP for the Meon Valley said: ‘The end of the work will hopefully mean the dark days of the winter of 2013/14 will just be a distant memory for villagers and will never be repeated.

‘I hope residents will be able to sleep easier and I thank them for their patience while a solution was devised and also through a year of disruption.’
