My films allow me to relive our holidays

TAKE a world journey, without needing foreign currency in your pocket or leaving Portsmouth.

My partner Jean Cornish and I will be presenting another of our popular Armchair Traveller big screen video shows in the Guildhall, Portsmouth, at 2.30pm on Thursday 13 and Wednesday October 19, raising funds for local charities.

I am a film-making enthusiast and my latest video will take guests on a journey from San Francisco to Yosemite and the Sequoia National Parks; Portugal’s Douro Valley, and Chester and the Welsh borderlands.

All the films have been shot, edited and produced by me.

Producing the films is an absorbing hobby involving many hours of enjoyable work researching, scripting and editing the films.

It also gives added value to holidays, reliving them while going through the editing process.

Many people raise money for local charities and good causes by capitalising on their pastimes, hobbies or sports.

It’s a pleasure to be able to use my enthusiasm for film-making to share the films with so many guests each year.

It provides an opportunity to explore on the big screen places that guests may have visited and rekindle memories or give ideas for future visits.

Staging the shows is an entertaining and novel way to raise funds for Naomi House children’s hospice and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth’s charity appeal.

This year the appeal, by Councillor Dave Fuller, is raising funds for Queen Alexandra Hospital’s oncology and haematology department. They are aiming to purchase a state-of-the-art blood testing machine.

We will also be fundraising for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the charity Help 4 Special Children, to assist with the purchase of a holiday home for terminally ill and disabled children within the Portsmouth area.

Last year’s shows raised £2,900.

We’re also grateful for the support we receive each year from several local businesses including Amity Leisure Travel, based at Segensworth.

The event is part of Portsmouth’s 60+ festival and guests who qualify can buy tickets for £4.
