Nuclear alarm to sound at Portsmouth Naval Base

The nuclear emergency siren at Portsmouth Naval Base will be sounded for a routine test at 9.30am on Monday, October 31.

The sound, a wavering tone, will last for one minute.

A naval base spokesman said: ‘By agreement with the local authorities, the siren is tested three times a year – on the last working days in February, June and October – as part of the nuclear emergency response plan for the Naval Base and in accordance with Portsmouth and Gosport councils’ nuclear safety plan.’
