A blue plaque is a permanent sign to commemorate a link between that location and a famous person, event, or former building on the site, which serves as a historical marker -kb with some placed by English Heritage and others by Portsmouth City Council.
There are a number of them in the city – we take a look at where some of them are and who they celebrate:
9. Thomas Ellis-Owen
Architect and developer Thomas Ellis-Owen is commemorated in a plaque in Southsea. From 1849 he lived at the house which is now Portsmouth High School for Girls, Dovercourt, Kent Road.

10. Commander Edward Unwin
A plaque commemorates Hero of Gallipoli Commander Edward Unwin who lived in a house at 12 Helena Road, Southsea. He was a Royal Navy officer and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

11. Lieutenant Norman Holbrooke
