That's why despite all the last-minute changes, so many people from across the Portsmouth area made sure their weddings went ahead during last year’s Covid-19 restrictions.
We recently took to Facebook to ask happy couples to share with us photos of their special and unexpectedly unique wedding days.
Megan married on 3.8.20. She said: 'Our wedding was meant to be, we got married in Santorini in Greece. 3rd August, 2020. We were surrounded by 25 of our friends and family. But sadly, my mum wasn’t able to make it as she lives in America and they weren’t accepting people from the states at the time. My husband's dad also couldn’t make it due to falling ill, then Australia kept their borders shut, so my maid of honour couldn’t attend. But we went ahead and with the help of video-calling they were all there.' Photo: Megan Dickson
Lucy and Paul married on 24.10.20. Lucy said: 'We got married on 24th October and had our dream wedding despite all the restrictions. 15 guests at the ceremony, 15 at the reception and the whole thing live-streamed. Wouldn’t change a thing.' Photo: Lucy Watson-Weavind
Lindsey married on 10.12.20. She said: 'We re-arranged our wedding a couple of times so that we could be married. We finally did it 10/12/2020. It was an awesome day.' Photo: Lindsey Pearson
Lana Anongu (soon to be Shackleton) completed a handfasting ceremony with her partner in May. She said: 'We did however get to have a virtual hand fasting (in our back garden) with my partners' two daughters present and our loved ones attended virtually. It has been an extremely tough year for everyone, but I guess not many people can say they’ve done anything like this, so as a positive we can take that away from this. We had a special day.'
