Children's invite to audition for Being Alive charity night

Auditions are being held for children who want to be involved in Being Alive's third annual charity event.

Every year Being Alive raise money for local charities and this year is set to be the biggest yet in aid of The Autistic Society and The Epileptic Society.

Being Alive – Big Band Night will be held on Sunday, June 19 and will be the first time the event comes to Ferneham Hall.

This year’s event is in memory of Robert Pocklington who sadly died due to a seizure last year aged just 29.

Kelly Fuller, founder of Being Alive, went to school with Robert’s sister Sarah Jayne. Robert was autistic and suffered with epilepsy.

Children aged eight and above who are interested in taking part are invited to attend auditions at The Mandaleigh Studios at 157a West Street on Sunday March 13.

Auditions will run from 10am to midday. The cut-off date for applications is February 28.

Previous years have seen Being Alive raise over £5,000 for charities Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Naomi House and the Stroke Association, and they are hoping to double that total with this year’s event.

Ms Fuller said: ‘What started as an idea in my head to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s after losing both my grandparents to dementia, and to help with Cancer Research after my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, has grown into what I call my theatre family, who get together to entertain people, while raising money for some fabulous charities.

‘We started our first year thinking this would be a great night to raise money, but the response from the audience and local community was fantastic and were soon asking us when the next one would be, so we decided to put it on again last year.

‘It has grown from there. I am looking forward to seeing Being Alive continue to grow, and help raise money for some amazing charities.’
