Cosham Co-op gives a boost to teen's humanitarian trip hopesÂ

Callum Smart, 14, of Cosham, needs to raise £4,500 to pay for a four-week trip to Borneo in 2019, which will see him helping to build schools and teach young children English.

And the Year 10 Purbrook Park School pupil, of Hilary Avenue '“ who works as a paperboy for The News '“ has now been given a welcome boost by workers at the Co-operative food store, in Lonsdale Avenue.

Over the next week they will be hosting a raffle, which they hope will raise  much-needed cash to help Callum reach his goal.

Dave Brown, deputy manager at the store, said staff were happy to help.

The 63-year-old added: '˜Callum is a good kid and we love helping out local people.

'˜You get all these big charities going on but it's not all about them. Sometimes it's about the little local people.'

Prizes in the raffle include toys and vouchers worth £150.

Callum's mum, Julie, praised the shop for its support and said: '˜They have been amazingly supportive of Callum's fundraising.'

Callum has previously taken part in a sponsored ride from London to Brighton, as well as doing gardening jobs, cake sales and washing cars to help him to reach his fundraising target.
