Daring Southsea fundraiser takes on 10,000ft skydive to support cancer charity Penny Brohn UK

Along with seven colleagues across the country, Fizz McBay took to the skies to raise funds for Penny Brohn UK, which supports patients going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Fizz, a management accountant for GenesisCare in Waterlooville, raised £412 through her daring feat which happened in place of a Great Wall of China trek she was supposed to be taking part in.

The 37-year-old, who didn’t think the jump would go ahead due to the wind, said: ‘I was the last out of the plane, but it all happened so quickly I didn’t have much time to think about the actual jump out. The winds were strong and pulling us all over the place… but I knew I was in good hands!

‘The jump had been planned since January and was due to happen in May initially. The feeling of relief once landing was immense, it had been a long time coming. I would definitely do another but perhaps not in the wind.’

Fizz has been overwhelmed by people’s generosity, and is proud to have raised this amount for a charity which deals with issues close to her heart.

She said: ‘I’ve sadly lost two immediate family members to cancer in the last four years. I also work for a private care provider, GenesisCare, so I’ve seen first-hand and second-hand the emotional impact of the disease and how it affects more than just the body.’

Fizz was made aware of Penny Brohn UK through her job, as it is GenesisCare’s partner charity.

Along with other colleagues who took on a skydive challenge, the total raised is more than £5,000.

‘I feel really proud, I’ve been overwhelmed by just how generous people have been,’ said Fizz.

‘It’s been such a difficult time for charities who don’t have the usual fundraising events to rely upon. Penny Brohn UK is a small charity so relies heavily on all donations received. I hope this can go some way to making a difference to people.’
