Denmead couple's wedding is the happiest day of their lives

‘There is someone for everyone in this world, you just have to want to find it,’ says Chelsie Whibley, as she smiles at her husband Glyn.

The Denmead couple met in 2011 on dating website, Plenty Of Fish. For Chelsie, what started out as a bit of fun led her to finding her soulmate.

Chelsie, née Jones, says: ‘We started talking and it was nice because it was a proper conversation. You don’t get a lot of that on there. When we started texting, I remember he called me one night. I just stared at my phone, I didn’t know what to do.

‘I thought “well he knows I’m here” so I had to pick it up. We spent three hours on the phone, talking well into the night.’

A month later, Chelsie, 28, and Glyn, 32, met in person. During the following months Glyn relocated from Redhill, Surrey, to Portsmouth and Chelsie moved in a year later.

In April 2013, Glyn went on holiday to Florida with Chelsie and her family, and he planned to get down on one knee.

‘We got engaged at Discovery Cove, Florida, while we were swimming with dolphins.

She says: ‘It was around my 21st birthday. I thought he was going to propose at the Magic Kingdom fireworks. I made sure I looked nice. The music started, the lights were going and the fireworks began. At the end, he just said “let’s go”. My heart went through the floor. I’m terminally ill with cystic fibrosis so I had my wheelchair with me. I got in and was in a foul mood for days.

‘A couple of days later we went to Discovery Cove to swim with dolphins. Everyone was getting pictures taken and the photographer said he needed to do mine and Glyn’s again,’ says Chelsie.

‘He told me to put out my hand like I was going to take something from the dolphin. The dolphin, Capricorn, swam up to me and on the buoy it said “Chelsie, will you marry me?”’

She recalls: ‘I wanted to go and see the pictures but the instructors directed me to a table where I had my ring and lots of flowers. It was lovely.’

A year later on August 23, Chelsie and Glyn married at St Colman’s Church, Drayton.

‘Mum and I attend St Colman’s so I knew I wanted to be married at the same church. That was important to me,’ says Chelsie.

‘It was very personal. The priest knew Glyn and I so that made it easier. We had full mass and 90 guests in the day.’

Since she was little Chelsie knew she wanted part of her wedding to be at the Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth. Her dream came true and she partied there with 300 guests in the evening.

She adds: ‘I loved all of it. We had quite a few speeches – my brother did an extra one which made me so happy and cry too.’

When Chelsie is struggling with her cystic fibrosis, Glyn is always on hand to help her. She says she feels eternally grateful to have found someone like him.

‘Glyn is really good with my illness. He’s studying for his masters so it’s quite tough on him,’ she explains.

‘But when he’s there, I can relax. I know he knows how to do my medication and what I need. When he’s around, I can sleep, which is what I need to do when I’m in hospital. He makes me feel safe and comfortable. I’ve got a lot of complex drugs which are specific to my condition but I know Glyn knows what he’s doing.’

When asked of her favourite thing about her husband, Chelsie took her time to put it into words.

‘When you asked me about my favourite thing about Glyn and I said how much he cares, I forgot to add something he has always told me and others. We have been asked how we cope knowing I’m going to die very young and how that was for Glyn getting into a relationship knowing this.

‘That’s something I can never understand, why someone would want to be with me knowing I’m dying. Why would you purposely get into that situation? He says he would rather have the love of his life for a little while than never at all.

‘I find that so amazing and strong. For me and my family we have no choice about our situation, but he did. He still didn’t want to run for the hills. It takes a special person to love someone like me and there are those people out there.’
