Dog show, clay pigeon shooting and falconry on offer at the Hampshire Country Sports Day

A HUGE country sports event is taking place in Hampshire later this month.

Hampshire Country Sports Day takes place at Bereleigh Estate, near Petersfield on Sunday, September 11.

This annual favourite in the county’s social calendar is ideal for family and friends to gather, watch, shop, participate and share their love for the countryside.

Main arena attractions include terrier racing, Ye Olde Redtail Falconry, and a hunting and hounds display, plus plenty of demonstrations.

And there will be stalls where you can have a go at clay pigeon shooting, run by Olympic medal winner Richard Faulds and his Owls Lodge team and archery, run by the Raven Field Archers.

The dog show includes classes such as handsomest dog, best child handler, waggiest tail, scruffiest dog, best puppy and best veteran. Also, the popular Gun Dog Scurry returns including ‘over the bales’, ‘mark and memory’, and ‘hurry up’ classes.

Another crowd favourite, The Lurcher and Terrier Show, hosted by The Coursing Crew, will feature simulated coursing followed by whippets and terrier racing. Wessex Ferret Club is also returning to the show after two years.

There is a great range of shops lined up, with the best crafts, leisure, sporting goods, clothing, and gifts, from outdoor boots, to jewellery, to fishing rods, and much more.

The show welcomes and supports local businesses from a wide variety of food and drink stands.

The event runs from 9.30am to 5pm. Advance tickets are £13 for adults, under-16s go free, and can be booked from: ticketsource.co.uk/hcsd, but are also available for £15 on the gate.
