FA Cup troublemakers will face ban '“ police warn

There will be a heavy police presence at tomorrow's Portsmouth v Bournemouth FA Cup tie at Fratton Park.

Police Commander Superintendent Andy Houghton said: ‘As with most FA Cup games we will issue specific advice beyond which applies to weekly games.

‘A Policing operation with specially trained public order officers will take place before, during and after the game. There have been a number of recent incidents of poor behaviour by some of those associating with Portsmouth.

‘Hampshire Constabulary is working closely with Portsmouth Football Club and it is our intention to prevent crime and disorder and to promote a trouble-free event.

‘Those who are intent on committing offences are likely to be arrested and face lengthy banning orders that prohibit them from attending future matches.

‘We know that most supporters will travel to and from the match to enjoy the match and we will be working closely with the British Transport Police, local authority and PFC to minimise congestion and disruption to local communities in the hope that journeys run smoothly.

‘This match is suspected to be a sell-out with nearly 19,000 supporters to Fratton Park, of which more than 2,800 will be away fans. The vast majority of supporters attend football to enjoy the game and do so peacefully.

People should be able to bring their children and family members to the matches without worry.’

The match kicks off at 3pm.
