HMS Sultan photographer wins archery contest

HAVING an eye for a decent picture is not the only skill an award-winning photographer has.

HMS Sultan Leading Photographer Dave Jenkins won the Royal Navy indoor recurve archery competition held at the Gosport base.

In only his second year, Dave shot a score of 536 out of a possible 600.

The contest saw more than 30 archers of different disciplines battle it out at HMS Sultan in their individual categories.

Dave, who has also won several photography honours, said: ‘I took up archery through helping at a Scout group and enjoyed it, so I looked into joining a club in the area.

‘In last year’s competition I finished seventh and since then I have been gradually improving with the help of other members of the club.

‘On the day of the competition everything just came together.

‘I was able to put in my best performance so far.

‘It was a great feeling to win, especially within such a tight margin.’
