Man's body found on Portsdown Hill

A MAN’S body was found on Portsdown Hill by emergency services last night after concerns were raised for a person’s safety.

Fire crews from Cosham were called to the scene at 2.20am and were part of an emergency services response which also involved the police, coastguard and ambulance service.

Three fire engines were sent from Cosham along with an aerial ladder from Southsea fire station and a specialist rescue team from Eastleigh.

A police helicopter also provided aerial assistance.

A Cosham firefighter confirmed the operation was centred on ‘one individual’ and said the aim of the rescue was ‘to save a life’.

They also confirmed their role in the operation was to ‘provide lighting and thermal imaging’.

Hampshire Constabulary later confirmed that a man’s body had been recovered.

A police spokesman said: ‘We received a concern for welfare call at 1.43am on Sunday 24 May.

‘Officers attended Portsdown Hill along with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, South Central Ambulance Service and the Coastguard.’

‘The man’s body was later found on the hill. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.’
