More than 3,000 Christmas cards flood in for veterans, care homes and hospital patients thanks to festive Asda campaign

More than 3,000 cards were written by Gosport and Fareham schools and community groups after local Asda stores put out an appeal to bring the community together.

Colourful creations flooded in from Gomer Junior and Infant Schools, Newtown Primary School, Wallisdean School, Motiv8 South Gosport, Baycroft School, Shore Leave Haslar, First Light Trust and Rowner Infant School.

Rachel Webber, community champion at Asda in Gosport, said: ‘We have been really amazed and proud of how our community has come together to help us spread a bit of Christmas cheer.

‘All the cards were isolated before being sent on to groups. It’s been a tough year for us all but particularly those who have not been able to see family and loved ones and I hope that it helps brighten the lives of those who receive them.’

In time for Christmas, the cards will make their way to Gosport War Memorial Hospital, Thorngate Living, Glen Heathers care home, Brendoncare, First Light Trust, Veterans Outreach and Shore Leave Haslar.

Stuart Andrews, manager of Gosport Asda, said: ‘I’m really proud of how involved in the community our community champions Rachel and Heidi have been.

‘It’s important that we remember those who have suffered most during these uncertain times and I’m sure that these cards will bring some joy to the residents and veterans.

‘Well done to all the children who took the time to write and make such wonderful cards.’
