Our church has a rich arts programme

The Dolce String Quartet performed in a recent concert in Holy Trinity Church, Gosport

The £200,000 project to restore the organ, which was once played by Handel, was funded largely by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

We’re really grateful for their support.

The reputation of the organ and our church’s wonderful ambience and acoustic means that we attract distinguished musicians and performers.

And our honorary artistic director Maggie McMurray, runs the concerts that we host each month.

There are ‘teatime concerts’ from 3.30pm on the first Sunday of every month, and an organ recital on the third Monday of each month.

In addition to that rich programme of over 20 performances, there are special evening concerts.

Last year, this included music from Portsmouth Baroque Choir and Bay House School.

We also host art exhibitions, such as those by local artists Ingrid Richards and Vicki Matthews, and the Lee-on-the-Solent Art Club. There are plans for drama performances, too.

The money raised by our concerts and other arts initiatives is split three ways, benefiting the church, the maintenance of the organ, and our arts programme.

As well as raising funds, it also raises our profile in our local community and much wider and it brings hundreds of people to our church, who would not otherwise come.

Here is a recent post, just to give you a flavour: ‘Today’s audience at Holy Trinity Church teatime concert was most fortunate to be able to escape the tempest outside, spend an hour in the glorious setting of Holy Trinity and listen to beautiful music played by five musicians who had only rehearsed the concert for the first time at 1pm!

‘We thank all five musicians and especially Tony Gutteridge for pulling together a splendid concert at very short notice when Philip Hickman had to pull out because of illness.

Huge thanks to Tony, Elizabeth, Susan and Angela (Dolce String Quartet), and Daniel Tonks (piano) for their sterling performance and for ‘saving the day’ in style!
