The Portsmouth firm, which grew during lockdown, has helped more than 200 businesses build and improve their online presence, and has plans to expand to help even more.

Owner Sam Amin, 36, from North End, saw the pandemic as an opportunity to support other businesses that had been negatively impacted by Covid.

He said: ‘We’re one of the fortunate ones to benefit from it and that’s why we’re trying our best to help businesses who have been less fortunate, those who don’t have that online presence as much as others.’

King Orange Design helps companies to build their business online. It offers website design and development, consultancy, branding and digital marketing amongst other services.

The business started as an ‘on and off hobby’ of Sam’s and only became his full-time job in the past year, due to increased demand over lockdown.

He said: ‘Since Covid, the demand for online digital services has increased so it was a good time for me to take this more seriously, and it’s just gone from strength to strength, every month has been busier.’

Sam said he thinks the reason for the increased demand is not only because of the pandemic, but also because people have discovered that the transition online is easier and less costly than they expect. He said it’s about ‘making them aware that the shift online isn’t as expensive as you think.’

Sam said King Orange has worked with a range of businesses, ‘from health and beauty businesses, to bigger medical companies and down to the local pharmacy or hairdressers, anyone and everyone really.'

Whether or not the client has a creative background, Sam and his team collaborate with them to help bring their ideas to life.

He said: ‘We start by discussing the requirements with them and carrying out some research, looking into competitors, trends, things like that. Then we’ll go away and come up with some ideas on a requirement brief which we’ll present to the customer along with a price and if they’re happy we get the ball rolling, give them a timeline and get going with it.’

‘Some customers are a bit more creative than others, those who are not just leave it to us, those who are and who already have a brand, we get their input of what they have in mind.’

Although the business has worked with companies across the world, Sam has a strong interest in working with businesses in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. He has worked with around 70 businesses across Hampshire, from Portsmouth to Basingstoke, and hopes that as his company grows further he will be able to help even more.

The diverse range of businesses that King Orange has worked with includes: Portsmouth-based pressed juice company Positive Juice, Jessie Leigh Dance & Cheer Academy in Gosport, pet boutique services company Parker’s Pets based in Southsea, NTC Hair and Beauty in Paulsgrove and Bentley Walker in Hayling Island, which is a satellite internet equipment reseller.
