The sum was raised throughout the year by holding concerts at various venues and visiting local care homes.

Graham Cranmer, Paulsgrove Community Singers’ chairman, said: ‘One of our singers goes to the particular meeting place where Maggie (Lipreading Group founder) teaches people to lip read.

‘It was her suggestion that we support this charity. It is not a huge amount of money but for small charities like this one anything is better than nothing’

The money donated by the Paulsgrove Community Singers will go towards launching a new group in Chichester.

Lipreading Group already has bases in Portsmouth, Havant and Alton to offer help and support to those who have suffered hearing loss in their everyday lives.

The Paulsgrove group meet at 7.30pm on Mondays at St Michael’s Church, Paulsgrove.
