Popular disco nights set to return for over 50s at Blue Lagoon at Hilsea Lido
Regularly packed-out events for the over-30s took place at the venue next to Hilsea Lido throughout the ’90s, seeing many relationships founded to the music of DJs of the day such as Pete Travers, Nolan Davis and Dean Stuart.
The Blue Lagoon, which now boasts a weekend tea room, holds regular events including the popular feature of Big Band Music on Sunday lunchtimes and a regular northern soul night which returned in 2018.

The organiser of this night was Denis Kaye who also hosted an over-30s Sunday Club and the Portsmouth Rock and Roll Club at the Blue Lagoon.
After moving into music magazines, live music promotion and then taking a break to recharge his entertaining batteries, Denis is now returning to the Blue Lagoon with a regular Club-50 event on the second Wednesday of every month.
He said: ‘We had a great time at this famous old venue back in the ’90s and it feels wonderful to bring this event back to its spiritual home.’

Hide AdTim Cox, manager of the Blue Lagoon, is also excited to host these events.
He and his family have been working with the Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust since early 2018 to help rekindle excitement for the facilities at Hilsea.
Tim, who is frequently asked if the discos will return, said: ‘We’re very happy to have Denis back and to give the people with those fond memories a chance to rekindle the excitement they remember.’
Denis added: ‘We may be a little older but we still know how to enjoy ourselves providing the atmosphere is right and the music prompts a few memories!’
The first Club-50 event at The Blue Lagoon will take place on Wednesday, March 11,, costing £4 for members and £5 for those planning to join. For more, visit club-50.co.uk.
