Josh’s owners were informed of his whereabouts and are due to collect him later for what is sure to be an emotional reunion.

‘Slow start to training today. Blue watch found a tortoise strolling across the drill yard,’ Southsea Fire Station posted on Twitter.

The message added: ‘The tortoise is safe and sound, fed and watered by CM Baker. Owners informed and collecting later today. We have named him Josh.’
