Southsea's Moyra Phillips says she still feels young on her 100th birthday
She smiles and says: ‘I don’t feel different. I feel as young as I ever was.’
Born on March 2, 1920, in Newport, Wales, to Thomas and Dolly Cridland, Moyra grew up with her five siblings and says she had a ‘lovely childhood’.

I had three brothers and one sister. I am the only one left now.
‘I left school when I was 14. Around the same time, my father retired as a policeman and we moved to Milford Haven. It was a lovely place.’
While she was there, Moyra worked in a variety of places from theatres to greengrocers. When she was 20 she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) as a driver, which was the women’s branch of the British Army during the Second World War.

Moyra says: ‘He asked if he could walk me home.
‘He was joining the navy and when he came out a few years later that’s when our relationship started.’
The couple married at Haverfordwest Register Office, near Milford Haven, and moved to Gosport soon after.
‘When he left the navy, we moved to Gosport for his new job.
She laughs and says: ‘But I never liked Gosport.’

‘I have visited Australia many times. It’s a great place,’ adds Moyra.
‘I am very grateful I’ve had the life I have had.’
To celebrate her milestone birthday, St George’s Court, Southsea, held a birthday celebration for Moyra, her family and friends.
She smiles and says: ‘I love the way of life here. Everyone is very nice.’
Before she joins the party downstairs, she says: ‘My advice would be don’t put too much trust in people. Some people can really let you down.’
