Key workers have inspired Pauline Lympany to create a rainbow artwork which was photographed and printed onto cards costing a £3 donation – with £2.50 being donated to Queen Alexandra Hospital, plus 50p postage.

The blank cards can be used as a thank you for an NHS worker, hospital, GP surgery or anyone else who deserves some appreciation for their work at this time.

Pauline, 51, said: ‘I live right by the hospital and my partner works for the NHS. The reason why I decided to do this is that the NHS is precious to our country - a priceless service that needs support from the everyday person and from the government.

‘It needs to be protected and staff appreciated for all their continuous hard work and dedication now and always.’

Pauline wanted to give thanks to the NHS for being there for herself and her family many times, including saving her 18-year-old son Christopher’s life when he was a baby.

The artist and crafter, who has sold more than 30 cards so far, said: ‘My son had a very rare heart condition and had to have open heart surgery at four and a half months old. We could have almost lost him so Southampton General was absolutely amazing, what they did for us.’

In 2018, Pauline had a cycling accident and paramedics came to her aid as well as a doctor and nurse passing by - it was after this when she took up painting for the first time.

Pauline said: ‘A big thank you to SCAS and those who helped me on the day of my cycling accident. If I can help someone, even if it’s just one, that’s a benefit to me. At this time, people have realised they need to be there for each other.

‘This is just to let the NHS know people are out there thinking of them. It’s nice to show some appreciation even if it’s something little - little things make such a difference.’
