Full of anecdotes and acting insights, Two Actors Walk Into a Bar is the brainchild of stage performers Scarlett Briant and David McCulloch.

Scarlett, from Portchester, had been thinking about starting a podcast for a while but has had an extra push as lockdown means little work is available for actors and creatives.

The 22-year-old said: ‘It has always been a competitive industry but the sheer volume of actors needing work versus the number of companies with their heads still above water that can afford to put the correct measures in place is just not there.’

Scarlett roped in David McCulloch, her co-star from BlackBox Theatre Company’s 2019 production The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Drama and fellow ex-Cams Hill School student.

Actor and writer David, 29, said: ‘When I first met Scarlett, I thought she was an innocent, quiet and timid lass. Then she opened her mouth, and boy how wrong I was!

‘Scarlett and I soon realised we had a very similar sense of humour and we got on like a house of fire during the production of the show.’

The first episode is an attempt to try and explain why they are starting this podcast, and with their tendency to veer off-topic, it takes an entire episode to fully explain it.

Various topics are lined up for future episodes to explore the acting world, look back on 2020 and more.

Scarlett said: ‘We knew we didn’t want it to be scripted because it would then lose its humorous tone, since the originality of our conversations centre around the anecdotal gems that come from nowhere.’

David added: ‘Our aim with the show is to create a chilled atmosphere, where people can sit back with a drink in hand, have a laugh, and get ready for the weekend, with the help of Two Actors and their inane and comical ramblings.’

Local artist Megan Siggers designed the podcast artwork, and Portsmouth band Rotaries provided an unreleased song to use as their soundtrack.

Series one contains eight episodes, which are set to be released weekly every Thursday evening. It is available on a range of podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcast and Acast.
