TWO women were taken to hospital this morning following a fire in a Gosport flat.

Two crews were deployed at 7am after reports of a fire in the kitchen of the ground floor property at Carr Court in Davenport Close.

By the time fire crews arrived the two women in the flat had to escape the blaze.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire using two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet.

The women were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have started from the cooker and the residents were alerted thanks to the property’s smoke alarm.

Gosport fire crew manager Adam Way said: ‘I would like to remind people to be mindful of leaving things cooking in the kitchen and the need to have working smoke alarms.’
