What would you like to see at new community centre in Horndean?

NOW is the chance for residents to say what they want from a new state-of-the-art community centre in the heart of a new housing estate.

As part of the conditions for building 700 homes on land east of Horndean, the developers must also build a hub for people across the town to gather and socialise.

It will be one of the biggest community centres in the area but, before a single brick is laid, councillors need to know exactly what people want.

Councillor Elaine Tickell, who represents Horndean, Hazleton and Blendworth on East Hampshire District Council, said: ‘A large new community building is just one of the benefits we shall see from the land east of Horndean development.

‘It will be one of the biggest such facilities in the area but if it is to be the best then we need to hear from local 
people about how they plan to use it.

‘Does it need a sprung floor for dance groups, does it need a large hall for shows, or smaller rooms for committee meetings? What kind of facilities does your volunteer group or community organisation need to thrive? Come along and let us know.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity to get a first-class facility that really works for the people of the village.’

Residents can also expect to see 50 acres of public open space, four children’s play areas, a multi-use games area, 60 allotments, a football pitch, a cricket pitch, a pavilion, as well as a primary school, shop, employment land, a care village and improvements to local roads.

Horndean Parish Council chairwoman Lynn Evans, Chairman said: ‘At long last, the development will bring to Horndean a community building equal to anything in the district, plus a host of facilities for all ages to enjoy.

‘At around eight times the size of Jubilee Hall, the building is the most exciting and challenging project to come to Horndean ever and I am delighted to be involved in the project.

‘What will the hall be like? Help to shape it. Come along to Merchistoun Hall, add your views and see what else will be coming.’
