Planned roadworks in Central Southern England: Monday 19 to Sunday 25 September

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of 16 September but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M3 junctions 2 (M25) to 4a Farnborough, Hampshire: smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways between junctions 2 and 4a, with a free recovery service operating 24 hours a day.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4a and 3 including junction 4a and 4 entry slip roads and junctions 4 and 3 exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 4 nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A327, A30 and A322.

The southbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4a including junctions 3 and 4 entry slip roads and junctions 4 and 4a exit slip roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 5.30am, from Monday 19 September for 4 nights and between 8pm and 7am on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A322, A30 and A327.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 3 including junction 4 entry slip road and junction 3 exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 7am, on Saturday 24 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A331, A30 and A322.

M3 junction 9 / A34 Winchester, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the Winnall Roundabout finishes this week. The roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, from Monday 19 September for 5 nights.

The following approach roads will also be closed during the same period:

A34 southbound from A303 Bullington Cross junction to the Winnall roundabout

A33 Kings Worthy link southbound from B3047 London Road

Easton Lane from the Tesco roundabout to Winnall roundabout

M3 junction 9 north and southbound exit slip roads

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place for all closures.

M3 junction 13 Eastleigh, Hampshire: barrier repair

Work to improve safety by carrying out repairs to the barrier will start this week. The southbound exit slip will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 September for 5 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via junctions 12 and 14.

M4 junction 8/9 Maidenhead to A404 junction 9a Cox Green, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing a section of the roundabout near the A404(M) takes place this week. The eastbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 7.

The A404(M) northbound carriageway from the roundabout to junction 9a will also be closed during the same period. In addition, lane closures will be in place on the westbound exit slip road and roundabout during the same period. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Maidenhead.

M4 junctions 10 Wokingham to 11 Reading, Berkshire: lighting

Work to maintain safety by carrying out maintenance work on the street lighting along the M4 continues this week. Lane closures will be in place on both carriageways overnight, between 9pm and 6am, until Friday 7 October (Monday to Friday only).

M4 junctions 11 Reading / Wokingham to 12 Theale, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway will start this week. The westbound carriageway and slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 September for 2 nights. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Wednesday 21 September for 3 nights. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the A4.

M4 junction 13 Chieveley to junction 12 Theale, Berkshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the carriageway will start this week. The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Monday 19 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A4.

M27 junction 8 Bursledon, Hampshire: drainage

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will start this week. The eastbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 22 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 9.

M27/M275/A27 Portsmouth, Hampshire: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing sections of the westbound carriageway near the Portsbridge interchange continues this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between the A2030 Eastern Road junction (on A27) to junction 11 and the link road from the M275 northbound carriageway to the M27 westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 6am, until Tuesday 27 September (Monday to Friday only).

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A2030 Eastern Road, Havant Road, Southampton Road and Porchester Road.

Traffic from the M275 will join the main diversion from the eastbound M27 at the A2030 Eastern Road junction.

A3 Compton, Surrey: signage

Work to keep road users informed by improving the signage will start this week. The southbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Tuesday 20 September and Thursday 22 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Milford junction.

A3 Milford, Surrey: signage

Work to keep road users informed by improving the signage will start this week. The southbound exit slip will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Monday 19 September and Wednesday 21 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Compton junction.

A3 Compton to Stoke, Surrey: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings along the A3 will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Wednesday 21 September.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Guildford, the A31 Hogs Back and B3000.

A3 Compton, Surrey: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings will start this week. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the University interchange and return.

A3 Charlton, Hampshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 23 September. Clearly signed diversions will be in place via the next available junction and return.

A34 Milton to Botley, Oxfordshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings will start this week. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 23 September. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A338/A420.

A34 Peartree to Hinksey, Oxfordshire: road marking

Work to improve journeys by renewing the road markings will start this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, from Thursday 22 September for 2 nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A338.
