Combined authority plans take further step forward

CITY leaders are to meet other councils to set up a combined authority.

Portsmouth City Council will meet with representatives from Southampton City Council, the Isle of Wight Council, and with the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership. The three councils and the LEP hope to attract £900m with Solent Combined Authority.

Portsmouth City Council leader Cllr Donna Jones said: ‘After months of working together, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight councils are now in a position to start formal consultation with the public about securing greater spending power and responsibility for the Solent area, subject to each council’s formal approval.’

Portsmouth council’s cabinet will look at a governance review on July 8.
