Consultation on children's centres in Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant coming to an end

MORE than 1,600 people have made their views known on plans to close some children's centres across the area.

Hampshire County Council is undertaking a major consultation over the plans to streamline its children’s services.

But the proposals to develop a new, single, integrated Family Support Service that would bring together the work of early help hubs, children’s centre services and youth support services, while aligning closely with the Supporting (Troubled) Families Programme, would see a number of children’s centres closing.

There have been high-profile campaigns to keep them open, particularly in areas such as Gosport where MP Caroline Dinenage has thrown her weight behind the campaign.

Drop-in information days have taken place in all the at-risk areas, including Gosport and Havant.

In a statement the council said the numbers attending each event have varied but on average around 50 people attended each of the events held in Fareham, Gosport and Waterlooville.

The consultation runs until May 3.
