Portsmouth councillors are set to decide on plans for a new part three, part four-storey development including 11 self-contained flats and two ground floor retail units at a meeting next week.

If approved it will replace an existing two-storey building, including two shops, offices and three flats, on the corner of Kingston Road and New Road. It will also include cycle and bin storage, but no car parking.

In a design statement by agents PLC Architects on behalf of applicants Forrest Group it said: ‘The application seeks to replace the building with a contemporary, high quality sustainable design.

‘The proposed accommodation reflecting the local need for small, affordable apartments which are located within close proximity to high frequency public transport routes, local facilities and services. The scheme seeks to promote a sustainable lifestyle which is not dependent upon use of the car.’

A decision on the plans will be made during a virtual planning committee meeting on Wednesday, July 22.
