Gosport MP welcomes high number of pupils getting into first choice schools

THE high number of pupils being offered their first choice of secondary school has been praised by an MP.

Caroline Dinenage, who represents Gosport, has welcomed the news that 93.3 per cent of parents applying for a Year 7 place have been offered a place at their first preferred school through Hampshire County Council.

In recent years the council has provided 6,300 additional places in Hampshire schools.

In Hampshire 84 per cent of schools are ranked ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by government inspector Ofsted.

Ms Dinenage said: ‘I am pleased to see these encouraging figures of parents getting places at their first preferred school.

‘I am also pleased that Bridgemary School was recently awarded a good Ofsted rating.

‘This is great news for Gosport and shows the enormous hard work and effort of staff, headteachers and students.’

Bridgemary went from being in special measures to good in 14 months.
