Hampshire County Council announces road improvements for A32 accident black-spot

A KEY route from Gosport to Fareham is set to be made safer after plans were agreed to widen the road.

Hampshire County Council has agreed to widen the existing carriageway of the A32 Fareham Road near its junction with Wych Lane in order to construct a new dedicated right turn lane.

Executive member for economy, transport and environment, Cllr Rob Humby, said: ‘Our team has reviewed the accident data along the A32 corridor and identified the Wych Lane junction as being in need of specific safety measures.

‘We put this scheme forward for national funding and I am pleased that we have received £1.581 million to cover the cost of these works from the Department for Transport’s Safer Roads Fund.’

The dedicated right turn filter lane will be approximately 50 metres long and will be constructed by extending the existing southbound A32 carriageway by around three metres in width and 80 metres in length. New traffic signals will also be installed,
