Have your say on major shake-up of Chichester's ward boundaries

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England is asking people across the Chichester District Council area to comment on its draft proposals. An eight-week consultation on the recommendations started yesterday and will end on October 10.

It is open to anyone who wants to have their say on new council wards, ward boundaries and ward names across the district.

The draft plan could see the district having 12 councillors axed, reducing the number on the district council to 36.

The remaining councillors would represent eight single-member wards, eleven two-member wards and two three-member wards across the district.

Professor Colin Mellors, chairman of the commission, said: ‘Our review aims to deliver electoral equality for local voters. This means that each councillor represents a similar number of people so that everyone’s vote in council elections is worth roughly the same regardless of where you live.’
