HMS Queen Elizabeth: Six '˜drunk' British Royal Navy sailors arrested in Florida '“ here's everything we know so far

The male Royal Navy sailors were arrested in Jacksonville, Florida, on Thursday. 

Britain's £3.1bn aircraft carrier arrived in Mayport for a re-supply stop on its journey to Maryland for historic flight tests. 

HMS Queen Elizabeth left Portsmouth for its 11 week deployment to the States last month.

Who was arrested? 

Police in Jacksonville arrested six British sailors between the ages of 19 and 28 '“ including: 

Ieuan Lemuel Edwards, 21

Thomas Inigo Reffold, 28

Matthew James Cotham, 22

Dominic James Gregory, 19

Steven Gorley

Jamie William Lutas 

What happened on the night? 

The News was able to obtain copies of the arrest reports which details the events leading to the arrests of the six male sailors.

The HMS Queen Elizabeth crew had gone drinking in the bars. 

Were the sailors tasered? 

Both Edwards and Reffold, from Gosport, were tasered by officers after resisting arrest. 

According to Reffold's arrest report he was seen '˜yelling and pushing an individual'.

The report read: '˜As I approached them, Reffold continued yelling and appeared as though he was about to fight the individual.

'˜Reffold was still yelling and had taken up an aggressive stance.

'˜After multiple failed attempts to gain compliance from Reffold, Officer S. Young delivered a drive stun with his agency- issued taser to Reffolds right thigh.'

While Edwards was seen to '˜pull his right fist behind his back, swing it forward, and strike one of the subjects in the face' before tasering and arresting him for affray and resisting arrest without violence.'

Why were the other sailors arrested? 

Cotham and Gregory were arrested for disorderly intoxication.

Officers approached Gregory when he became '˜verbally abusive' to his shipmates trying to get him to the bus pick-up point for the ship and instead laid down in the road.

The report read: '˜He was instructed to get up and get out of the roadway.

'˜The subject refused, he was then informed he would be arrested if he did not get up.

'˜The subject was placed in handcuffs and had to be picked up out of the roadway.'

Gorley from Radcliffe, Manchester, was arrested for trespassing on property after a security manager flagged police down outside Lynch's Irish Pub and was described as '˜extremely intoxicated'.

The arrest report for Jamie William Lutas was unavailable.

What happened to the sailors after being arrested? 

All of the sailors were taken to Duval County Jail after police officers failed to make contact with HMS Queen Elizabeth.

What has the Royal Navy said? 

On Friday a Royal Navy spokeswoman said: '˜We can confirm that a number of naval personnel are assisting US police with their inquiries. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.'

Why is HMS Queen Elizabeth in America? 

The aircraft carrier has sailed to the U.S. for historic flight tests which will see the first landing of the F-35B, the UK's new stealth jet, onto the enormous flight deck of the 65,000-tonne leviathan.

After finishing her re-supply in Mayport, HMS Queen Elizabeth will sail north up the East Coast of America to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland for the tests.
