Isle of Wight talent on show in Royal Marines band

IT IS one of the smallest counties in England but its musical talent is on display for the world to see.

Out of the 50 drummers who make up the Royal Marines Band Service, five are from the Isle of Wight with another training at the Royal Marines School of Music, in Portsmouth.

The musicians serve with the band service’s Corps of Drums.

Corporal Bugler Stuart Bartlett, serving with the Commando Training Centre band in Devon, said: ‘To have so many islanders in the Corps of Drums is remarkable. I think it’s due to the proximity of the Royal Marines School of Music and the fact that the bands perform on the island quite often.

‘Also the marching bands on the island set high standards.’

As well as performing at engagements across the world, Royal Marines musicians are trained to support military and humanitarian operations across the globe.
