New programme launched to support Naval Service leavers

A free new advice and support programme has been launched for Naval Service leavers.

The Shipmates and Oppos Programme, funded by Greenwich Hospital and administered by the Royal Naval Association, supports leavers during their transition to civilian life and during the important five years post-discharge.

Everyone, regardless of their rank, trade and number of days served, can call upon the programme for practical support as often as they need it.

Andy Christie, the programme manager, who served in the Royal Navy for 35 years, said: ‘We all know that adjusting to life in civvy street isn’t always easy, especially if you’ve got a family, or are dealing with issues like finding a job and somewhere to live for the first time. We can find the help that suits their individual and family needs.’

All Royal Navy and Royal Marines Service leavers will be provided with a Shipmates and Oppos Programme membership card when they leave with a contact number on the back.

Those who have already left the service can apply to join the programme at shipmatesandoppos.org.uk.
