The new building at the PMC Stadium forms part of a series of upgrades planned by the club, which are aimed at bringing it up to its Wessex League Premier Division standing.

Earlier this year, club chairman Steve Cripps said the new facilities would be installed in the summer of 2023 to replace its existing temporary changing rooms.

The new block, which is expected to cost £150,000 to build, will include home and away changing rooms, male and female changing rooms for officials, a room for physios and some storage space.

Approving the application, Portsmouth City Council officers said the development would ‘satisfactorily integrate’ with the stadium surroundings and would be an improvement to its current ‘dated’ facilities.

While the plans were first submitted in June last year, planning permission was only granted at the end of last month.

‘The proposed development is considered to be of an appropriate design and scale and would result in no adverse impact upon the amenities enjoyed by the occupants of neighbouring properties,’ the report by planning officers said.

The club will now have to carry out a study to check for any potential land contamination at the site and have any issues resolved before construction can start.

Mr Cripps said the club's next priorities could be to increase the capacity of its stand and to carry out more improvements to its pitch.
