Portsmouth council chief calls on city companies to join scheme helping disabled into work

BUSINESS leaders are being urged to join a scheme helping disabled people into work.

The call has been made by Portsmouth City Council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson, who wants more firms to become Disability Confident employers.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

It sees companies hiring employees referred to them under the Department for Work and Pensions’ work and health programme.

Cllr Vernon-Jackson said: ‘This is your chance to offer local people an opportunity to get into work and they will offer your business so much in return.’

It’s already proven a big hit in Portsmouth, with Amberley Security and Lily & Lime among the companies already backing the scheme. Both were named joint winners at the Portsmouth Employer of the Year Award 2019. For details, call 02392 322800.
