Portsmouth leader backs decision to protect Highbury children's hub

THE leader of Portsmouth City Council says she's '˜delighted' children services in Cosham have been protected.

Campaigners were concerned Highbury Community and Children’s Centre would no longer be used to provide children’s services after plans were drawn up to axe sites in a bid to save £205,000.

Three other children centres in the city will go though, much to the dismay of councillors.

They are; Portsdown, Drayton and Farlington Children’s Centre, North End and Willows Children’s Centre. Work will be done to establish a future use of the buildings.

Cllr Donna Jones said: ‘I’m delighted the future of children’s centre services in Highbury has been secured. After visiting to meet parents, it was obvious how valued this service is and it is only right that it becomes part of an Ofsted-registered children’s centre cluster in the north of the city.’
