U-boat propeller handed back to German NavyÂ

ONE of two First World War U-boat propellers found after a submarine was sunk has been handed back to the German Navy.

The propellers were recovered by police in Bangor, North Wales, last year '“ 100 years after the vessel was sunk. 

The second propeller will be displayed at the Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth.

The U-Boat was credited with sinking 58 ships but was rammed and sunk by Royal Navy destroyer HMS Fairy in May 1918.

Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey, chief executive of the MCA, said: '˜These propellers tell a story of bitter conflict and loss, but also of bravery and love.'
