U-boat propeller handed back to German NavyÂ

ONE of two First World War U-boat propellers found after aÂ submarine was sunk has been handed back to the German Navy.

The propellers were recovered by police in Bangor, North Wales, last year '“Â 100 years after the vessel was sunk.Â

The second propeller will be displayedÂ at theÂ Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth.

The U-Boat wasÂ credited with sinking 58 shipsÂ butÂ was rammed and sunk by Royal NavyÂ destroyer HMS Fairy in May 1918.

Vice Admiral SirÂ Alan Massey, chief executive of the MCA, said: '˜These propellers tell a story of bitter conflict andÂ loss, but also of braveryÂ and love.'
